Federal Minister for State and Frontier Regions, Engineer Amir Muqam, met with a delegation led by Chief of Mission, International Organization for Migration (IOM), Ms. Seto Miyazu, at his office in Islamabad on Sunday, May 26. Other high-ranking officials, including Chief Commissioner for Afghan Refugees, Muhammad Abbas Khan, and Joint Secretary of SAFRON, were also present.
The Federal Minister praised IOM’s services for Afghan citizens and the host community, acknowledging the need for further assistance in health, education, and infrastructure. Engineer Amir Muqam emphasized that Pakistan is still bearing the burden of hosting the largest number of refugees worldwide, a responsibility it has shouldered for the past 40 years, and urged the international community to recognize this.
The Minister expressed the desire for Afghan refugees to return to their homeland with dignity, and assured that no forced repatriation or harassment has occurred so far, and that screening processes are underway.
