CORRUPTION TSUNAMI: Peshawar BRT Scandal Swallows Rs 168.5 Billion, NAB Sounds Alarm

Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has achieved its largest-ever indirect recovery of Rs 168.5 billion (USD 570 million) in the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) scandal.

The NAB’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter successfully challenged claims worth Rs 31.5 billion by contractors in the International Court of Arbitration.

The investigation, initiated in 2018, uncovered allegations of illegal contract awards, embezzlement of government funds, and fake performance guarantees.

Under the current leadership, NAB KP pursued the inquiry vigorously, recovering a record amount and saving the nation’s coffers.

Sources confirm that the provincial administration, cabinet, and PDA provided crucial support and cooperation throughout the process.

NAB’s probe revealed that six contracts for Peshawar BRT’s civil works were awarded to four joint ventures, comprising two Pakistani companies and three foreign firms.

The successful recovery sets a precedent for NAB’s efforts in combating corruption and ensuring accountability.
