China Strongly Opposes Deputy Leader of Taiwan’s Transit Through US en Route to Paraguay; Warns of Sovereignty Measures
KARACHI: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs People’s Republic of China issued a strong statement expressing China’s resolute opposition to the upcoming transit of the deputy leader of the Taiwan region, William Lai, through the United States en route to Paraguay. Lai is set to attend the inauguration of the Paraguayan president, with reported stopovers in New York and San Francisco.
The statement, reiterated China’s steadfast objection to any official interaction between the United States and Taiwan, emphasizing the Taiwan question as a core interest and a red line that must not be crossed. The statement urged the United States to adhere to the one-China principle and halt any support for “Taiwan independence” activities.
They also highlighted China’s concerns about Lai’s transit through the US, expressing strong opposition and a commitment to closely monitor developments. China warned of robust measures to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The statement stressed the futility of pursuing independence with external support and underscored the importance of Taiwanese well-being.
