QUETTA: The Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti has issued orders for payment of the salaries and pensions to the teachers and other employees of all public sector universities immediately. He said that salaries are right of the serving teachers and employees and as such the timely payment of the same should be ensured.
However, he ordered to take action against the absentee and negligent employees.
The Chief Minister was chairing a high level meeting on the financial and administrative affairs of the public sector universities of the province, here on Wednesday.
The Provincial Minister for Finance, Mir Shoaib Nausherwani, Minister for Education, Ms. Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani, Minister for Planning and Development, Mir Zahoor Buledi, Chief Secretary, Shakeel Qadir Khan, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Imran Zarkoon, Secretary Finance, Babar Khan, Secretary Higher Education, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir besides vice chancellors of the public sector universities of the province were in attendance at the meeting.
The meeting decided to ban new recruitments and construction of unnecessary development projects in the public sector universities of the province.
It was also decided to make desperately needed recruitments in universities on the adhoc basis as per the new Act.
The Chief Minister on the occasion expressed deep concern over the unnecessary recruitments in the public sector universities besides extraordinary increase in the expenditures of the universities.
He issued directives to avoid new recruitments and development projects in the universities. In addition to this, he directed to the vice chancellors to do right sizing by reducing the unnecessary and additional staff there.
The Chief Minister asked the vice chancellors to improve financial management system of their respective universities.
He said that necessary legislation is being made for formulation of comprehensive contract policy in the province.
In this regard, Balochistan Contract Appointment Act is being promulgated for recruitments on the temporary basis.
He said that the development of education is our priority and aim. He said that we would provide resources to the universities after making deduction in the funds from the development funds and other accounts. But we would also want better results.
The Chief Minister also urged the vice chancellors to close the unpopular and unbeneficial faculties in the universities gradually. Similarly, the research process should be promoted in the universities and provide useful skills and education to the students for making them compatible with the modern day requirements, he maintained.
A committee was formed under leadership of Chief Secretary Balochistan to take steps for the commercial activities in the public sector universities under public-private partnership.
