Canadian High Commissioner calls on Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora

Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora called on Canadian High Commissioner, Pakistan Leslie Scanlan at his camp office on Friday. Secretary Human Rights Ali Bahadur Qazi, First Secretary Canadian High Commissioner and other relevant persons were present in the meeting. In the meeting, there was a detailed discussion about the protection of human rights, especially the rights of women, children and others classes. The High commissioner congratulated the provincial minister on assuming the important position and said that it is certainly a matter of great honor for the Sikh community that someone from their community got a ministry in Punjab for the first time. Canadian High Commissioner expressed good wishes for the future of the provincial minister. She hoped that the protection of human rights in Punjab will be ensured and assured that Canadian Government will always stand with the Punjab Government for the protection of human rights. The provincial minister briefed the Canadian High Commissioner about the measures taken by
Punjab government for the marginal segments of the society. He said the top priorities of the Punjab government is to promote inter-faith and for this it is being carried forward with the help of various scholars and religious leaders of different schools of thought. He told the High Commissioner that recently the Chief Minister of Punjab has highlighted the positive side of Pakistan in the world by actively participating in the festival of Easter and Baisakhi, while Pakistan is getting recognition due to the good actions of Maryam Nawaz. The provincial minister further said that all minorities are fully protected throughout Punjab while the Punjab Government working on increasing the grant of scholarships. Ramesh Singh made it clear that in his five-year roadmap, he is doing short and long-term planning while Everyone has to play a proactive role to prevent incidents like the Jardanwala tragedy. Ramesh Singh exclusively told the High Commissioner that recently a Christian youth kept a woman safe for two hours in I1 Ichhra Shopping Center Lahore while the woman police officer also showed bravery and thus a tragedy was not allowed to happen. . Ramesh Singh said that various measures are being taken to empower women such as interest free loans and various technical courses are being provided to women. At the end of the meeting, the Provincial Minister along with the Secretary of Human Rights presented a commemorative shield along with a bouquet of flowers to the Canadian High Commissioner.
