CANADA OFFERS SUPPORT FOR AFGHAN REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT IN PAKISTAN

Canadian High Commissioner Leslie Scanlon met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions, Engr Amir Muqam, to discuss bilateral ties and mutual interest issues, including the resettlement of Afghan refugees.

According to a press release from the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON), Minister Muqam highlighted the significant economic burden Pakistan faces in hosting approximately 3 million Afghan refugees. He expressed his country’s desire for a dignified repatriation process and acknowledged Canada’s interest in resettling Afghan refugees.

Muqam also requested financial assistance to support documented Afghan refugees in Pakistan. The meeting comes as Canada continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting global refugee resettlement efforts. Since 1959, Canada has resettled over 700,000 refugees from around the world.
