QUETTA: The Government of Balochistan has decided to start process of procurement of wheat in the province from May 6 (Monday).
The Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti announced that 0.5 million tons of wheat would be purchased from the growers during current year.
He directed to the Finance Department to release Rs. 2.5 billion for procurement of wheat out of total Rs. 5 billion already approved by the provincial cabinet.
He directed to release the amount by Monday next. Besides, he directed to release remaining Rs. 2.5 million for the purpose this month too.
The Chief Minister was chairing high level meeting of the Food Department on Wheat Procurement Policy and Plan 2024.
Those who were in attendance at the meeting were Provincial Minister for Food, Noor Muhammad Dummar, Provincial Minister, Nawabzada Tariq Magsi, Chief Secretary, Shakeel Qadir Khan, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Imran Zarkoon, Special Secretary, Asfandyar Baloch besides other concerned high ups.
The meting decided to release Rs. 139 million for purchase of bags for wheat on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister said that we want to give relief to the growers. He reiterated his government’s resolve to bring transparency by eliminating corruption. He vowed that the dot of corruption would be removed from the Food Department.
He regretfully pointed out that the officers of Food Department are reluctant to perform their routine departmental responsibilities because of the corruption and corruption and corrupt practices done in the past.
Earlier, during briefing, Secretary Food, Asghar Harifal informed that steps are being finalized for procurement of wheat in the province.
