NASIRABAD, BALOCHISTAN – August 8, 2024: The Balochistan government has taken pre-emptive measures to improve the irrigation system in the province ahead of the monsoon rains. Teams of officers from the Irrigation Department are working on various canal systems to strengthen weak points and prevent flood damage.
According to sources, the Pat Feeder Canal’s back was weakened at the RD 206 location, which has been strengthened using heavy machinery. The floodwater relay from Dera Bugti used to affect the Pat Feeder Canal at this location, but the provincial government has stopped the water supply in the canal to prevent any damage.
The Irrigation Department’s engineers are supervising the work, which includes strengthening the canal’s back and preventing any potential breaches. The government’s efforts aim to ensure that the irrigation system is fully functional during the monsoon season and that farmers’ crops are protected from flood damage.
This move is part of the provincial government’s efforts to improve the irrigation system in Balochistan and mitigate the effects of flooding during the monsoon season.
