Balochistan Election Tribunal Orders Re-Polling in 16 Stations of PB-44

Independent Report.

Quetta, October 9, 2024 – In a significant decision, the Balochistan Election Tribunal, headed by Justice Abdullah Baloch, has nullified the notification of Ubaidullah Gorgiej’s victory in the provincial assembly constituency PB-44.

The tribunal ordered re-polling in 16 polling stations of the constituency, upholding challenges filed by National Party’s Atta Muhammad Banglezai, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Malik Faisal Dehwar, Pashtunkhwa Party’s Agha Abdul Khaliq, and BNP’s Waheed Lehri, among others.

Gorgiej, a candidate from the Pakistan Peoples Party, had been declared the winner in the initial count. However, the tribunal’s verdict has now invalidated his victory.

This development is likely to have significant implications for the political landscape of Balochistan. The re-polling is expected to take place soon, with the exact dates to be announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
