KARACHI, May 29, 2023 – Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA) held its Annual General Body Meeting at Sir Syed Tower which was attended by a large number of members of the association. The meeting approved the minutes of the last year’s proceedings and audit report.
Addressing the Annual General Body Meeting, the Acting President of AMUOBA, Commodore (R) Salim Siddiqui, said that despite unfavorable conditions, our team kept the pace of development work and did not let the growth of the institutions fall down. Members should try to end the differences and work for the betterment of the organization with a collective and unbeatable force. Adopt the positive approach, develop the habit of forgiveness, and give up the tendency to find bitterness in everything.
On the occasion, the President of the Association and the Chancellor of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET), Jawaid Anwar, said in his message that under the terrible atmosphere of Covid when business organizations were retrenching their employees and cutting down their salaries, no employee was fired at Sir Syed University, nor was his salary stopped, nor reduced. There was no cut-off in expenses. By the grace of God, AMUOBA and the associated institutions are running very smoothly both administratively and financially. Despite the adverse conditions, our team did not let the quality of performance get affected and handled things brilliantly and skillfully.
Presenting a detailed report on the performance of the association and its affiliated institutions for the past years, the Honorary General Secretary of the AMUOBA, Engr. Muhammad Arshad Khan said that Sir Syed University is an ideological institution that is the legacy of the philosophy of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. In pursuit of his vision, Sir Syed University was established in 1994 under the patronage of the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association. The SSUET is one of the leading universities in Pakistan. Charter Inspection & Evaluation Committee, Sindh declared Sir Syed University as the first engineering university of Sindh in the private sector in its recent ranking.
About 24,165 students have graduated from Sir Syed University. At present, about 6263 students are studying in the 20 departments. The ratio of teacher to student is 1:16. Higher Education Commission of Pakistan made Sir Syed University a part of the Higher Education Data Repository for its outstanding performance and high quality. Branded Foundation gave the Brand Icon of Pakistan 2022 Award to Sir Syed University.
Outstanding bills, dues, and arrears were settled. Even the 99-year lease of the AMUOBA Office at M.R. Kayani Road was obtained and Sir Syed Tower is now fully owned by AMUOBA.
He informed that Former President of AMUOBA and first Chancellor of Sir Syed University, Engr. Z. A. Nizami Chair and Former Secretary General of the Association Engr. Muhammad Zakir Ali Khan Chair will be established at the university. Sir Syed Ahmed Khan’s commemorative coin, a commemorative postal stamp of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan’s photo image on the currency note of Rs 75, and Sir Syed Flyover are the fruitful results of AMUOBA’s efforts. Construction of the Sports Complex at AIT ground is under consideration.
General Secretary Arshad Khan announced to award a gold medal to Vice President AMUOBA, Abdul Rasheed Khan, on behalf of the Association in recognition of his value-added services.
