UMERKOT: A young manservant, who died in mysterious circumstances at his employer’s house in Hyderabad four days ago, was laid to rest in Mahendry Jo Par village on Tuesday.
The bereaved family said that the victim Abdul Rehman Samejo, 22, had served as cook with Dr Naeem and Dr Mehwish in Latifabad for six years. Dr Naeem told them in the evening of March 15 that he had called police after some robbers sneaked into the house and robbed Dr Mehwish of Rs3 million and jewelry she was wearing, said the family members.
They said that police arrived at the house and left after gathering information but as per Dr Naeem police asked Abdul Rehman where he had been at the time of robbery. He replied that he was offering Taraveeh and then the officials asked him that they might need him for interrogation, they said quoting Dr Naeem.
They said that police officials later told them that an hour after they had left Dr Naeem’s house his neighbours informed them that Rehman had committed suicide. Police rushed back to the house but found no one there as the couple had taken the body to Bhittai Hospital in Latifabad, they said.
They said that police reached the hospital and asked the couple why they had taken the body to the hospital without informing police and why had they got the autopsy done. They replied that Rehman went into washroom after police officials left and hanged himself for fear of getting arrested, they claimed.
Police officials later checked the washroom and found its roof was equal to the victim’s height, which precluded the possibility of his hanging himself from the roof, they said.
They said that Rehman’s parents were informed about their son’s death the next day and they refused to receive the body, which kept lying in the hospital for four days. Later, the family lodged an FIR against the doctors at Latifabad police station under Section 302.
When Dr Naeem arrived at the police station to talk to the family police arrested him but after the heirs left the police station he was released. On Monday, the family moved Sindh High Court’s Hyderabad bench and obtained order for re-conducting of post mortem, which was held and the body was shifted to Umerkot.
Protest against ‘murder’
Dozens of youths from Umerkot and Tharparkar led by Moosa Samejo, Hayat Samejo, Molvi Yousuf Rind and others staged a demonstration at Umerkot press club in protest against what they called brutal murder of the poor Thari maid servant and the suspects’ tactics to make the murder look like suicide.
They demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and a judicial inquiry against the influential killers.
