(Independent Report) Islamabad, August 8, 2024: The long-delayed expansion project of the Parliamentary Lodges has made significant progress due to the personal interest and efforts of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
The Speaker had taken notice of the project’s delay and cost overrun soon after assuming office and directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to complete the project as soon as possible. He also chaired several meetings with relevant departments to ensure the project’s swift completion at minimal cost.
Sadiq warned that any further delay in the project would not be tolerated, and legal action would be taken against the responsible departments. He noted that the delay had not only caused difficulties for parliamentarians in terms of accommodation but also led to a significant increase in the project’s cost.
The Speaker pointed out that parliamentarians had also expressed their concerns about the delay in the project on several occasions. The project had been stalled due to a lack of funds in the past, but the Speaker’s efforts ensured the allocation of necessary funds in the current budget.
The CDA has assured the Speaker that Phase One of the expansion project would be completed within the current financial year, while the Speaker has directed the CDA to take concrete steps to complete Phase Two in the next financial year.
This development is a significant milestone in addressing the long-standing issue of accommodation for parliamentarians and is a testament to the Speaker’s commitment to resolving the problems faced by lawmakers
