Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, chaired a meeting regarding the Kacchi Canal project. The meeting was attended by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfsraz Bugti, provincial ministers, and officials via video link.
The Member Planning Infrastructure briefed the meeting on the Kacchi Canal project. Minister Ahsan Iqbal directed experts to come up with a solution within two months to extract 400-500 cusecs of water from the Kacchi Canal. He emphasized that restoring the Kacchi Canal and ensuring 500 cusecs of water flow is crucial before formulating a strategy to deal with future flood situations.
The minister stated that providing water to the local population is a top priority for the government. He added that a cut of Rs. 300 billion has been made in the development budget, and now solutions must be found within the limited resources available.
Ahsan Iqbal praised the Punjab Urban Canal model, saying it is working well and should be adopted. Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti expressed hope that under the minister’s supervision, wate flow in the canal will be restored soon, and a comprehensive plan will be formulated to provide the best facilities to the people of Balochistan.
