QUETTA: The wheel jam strike was observed on all the national highways and roads all over Balochistan province on Monday.
The call for wheel jam strike was given by the Balochistan National Party (BNP) against the law and order situation in Wadh and other parts of the province besides other certain issues.
Following the strike, the highways and roads were blocked at different places and points throughout the day from morning till 04:00 PM.
While the Quetta-Karachi highway was blocked at Lak Pass, Mastung, Khad Kocha and Kalat, the Quetta-Taftan highway was blocked at Noshki and Dalbandin.
Similarly, the Quetta-Sibi-Sukkur highway was interrupted at Darakhshan area in Quetta suburb and few other parts. The Quetta-Punjab and DI Khan and Chaman highways and roads were blocked at Baleli, Killa Saifullah, Rakhni and different other points.
The movement of traffic remained suspended causing immense problems to the commuters and transporters on the highways.
According to a leader of BNP, Ghulam Nabi Marri, the protest was lodged against the increasing incidents of extortion, kidnapping for ransom, armed groups besides the situation of law and order in Wadh and other parts of the province.
He charged that attempts are being made to push the real democratic political party towards the wall. Similarly, the armed groups and kidnappers for ransom have been given free hand, he added.
In addition to this, the protest was also registered against the issue of missing persons in the province.
