KARACHI, June 16, 2023 – Dr. Tasnim Ahsan is the first Pakistani endocrinologist who has been honored with the prestigious Laureate Award 2023 by the Endocrine Society of America.

Appreciating the valuable contribution of Dr. Tasnim Ahsan toward Endocrinology, Jawaid Anwar, President of Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association and Chancellor of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, said, I feel obliged to express my appreciation for Dr. Tasnim Ahsan who is a pride of the nation and country. Her research-based knowledge kindles a new hope of success in alleviating the health-related suffering of people.

Congratulating her, Chancellor Jawaid Anwar said that Dr. Tasnim Ahsnan has great potential of playing an effective role in exploring new aspects and features of endocrinology and hormonal disorder. She is working in pursuit of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan’s vision who was a great proponent of scientific education and his whole movement was based on acquiring scientific knowledge, rational thinking, and modern outlook. In the new era of global change, we need a good understanding and appreciation of the sciences.

A total of 12 health experts and professionals were selected to be honored with Laureate Awards this year and Dr. Tasnim is the first endocrinologist of Pakistan who received the International Excellence in Endocrinology Award that acknowledges the success of endocrine researchers and clinicians worldwide.

The Professor Emerita at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and the founding Dean of the Medi-cell Institute of Diabetes Endocrinology & Metabolism in Karachi (MIDEM), Dr. Tasnim Ahsan, is an internationally renowned clinician and educator who has contributed to the establishment and growth of the field of endocrinology in regions with limited resources for hormone health research, education, and clinical practice in Pakistan.

Dr. Tasnim Ahsan began her first endocrinology practice in the public sector hospital JPMC in 1993. She has trained over 100 postgraduate trainee doctors in internal medicine and endocrinology. She is also associated with OMI Institute since 2021 as Director of the Department of Diabetes Endocrinology & Internal Medicine. She has published numerous articles in National and International journals, serves on Editorial advisory Boards of journals, and reviews scientific papers and research proposals submitted for funding.

After graduating from Dow Medical College in 1978, she completed mandatory House-job training in Surgery and Medicine and then proceeded to the UK, where she completed rotational training in internal Medicine and Medical sub-specialties, whilst working in Stobhill General Hospital and Ruchill Hospital in Glasgow, from 1981 to 1984. She obtained her MRCP (UK) in 1983 and has subsequently been awarded fellowship of all 3 Royal Colleges of (UK).
