The Child Protection & Welfare Bureau Punjab (CPWB) organized an awareness walk to bring attention to the issue of child abuse, child labour, child trafficking and child beggary. The walk was led by the Chairperson of the CPWB, Sarah Ahmad, and Goodwill Ambassador Nadia Jamil alongwith number of participants.

 

Lahore, June 12: The Child Protection & Welfare Bureau Punjab (CPWB) organized an awareness walk to bring attention to the issue of child abuse, child labour, child trafficking and child beggary. The walk was led by the Chairperson of the CPWB, Sarah Ahmad, and Goodwill Ambassador Nadia Jamil alongwith number of participants. This awareness walk aimed at creating awareness on child abuse, child labour, child trafficking and child beggary and also to highlight CPWB’s child helpline 1121.

The walk was well-attended by people from all walks of life, who came together to support this important cause from CPWB. The CPWB’s Child Helpline number, 1121, was also highlighted as a resource for anyone in need of assistance.

 

“Since its inception, Child Protection Bureau has made remarkable progress in rescuing vulnerable children from streets, with over 75000 children rescued to date. In the past 4 years alone, Child Protection Bureau has rescued more than 19000 children providing them with a chance at a better future” she added “Child Protection Bureau is taking proactive measures to address the issue of child beggary and for this, Bureau is conducting rescue operations four times a day to rescue beggar children.” Chairperson Sarah Ahmad further told that “Child Trafficking is a grave concern that robs innocent children of their freedom. So far, the Bureau has identified and lodged FIRs in 76 cases of child trafficking over the past four years. Another significant area of focus for child protection is rescue and rehabilitation of domestic workers who are vulnerable to exploitation. The Bureau has successfully rescued 536 domestic workers who were victims of Child trafficking and child abuse.”

 

“Public can inform us CPWB’S Child helpline 1121 in case they find any child victim of child abuse, child labour, child trafficking and child beggary to save the life and all stakeholders should work together to save our children.”, said Chairperson Sarah Ahmad. “The victims of child abuse, child labour, child trafficking and child beggary remain on trauma in their life that can damage their confidence and personality so it needs to rooted out.”, mentioned Child Rights’ activist Nadia Jamil.

 

The Director General of the CPWB, Aftab Ahmad Khan, and all officers of the CPWB and residing children organized and participated in the walk and chanted slogans. The walk was also attended by Justice (R) Nasira Iqbal, Commissioner Lahore, Director Labour Department, SP Traffic, SP Model Town, Social Welfare Department, Rescue 1122 Department and representatives from many Government Departments. Different NGOs working on child rights and civil society members also participated this awareness walk.
