Registrar LHC objects plea to restore Sharif as party head
LAHORE, (TLTP): The Registrar Lahore High Court Monday raised objection over a plea seeking restoration of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif as President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), saying the High Court lacks jurisdiction in the matter as the top court had disqualified Sharif.
Afaq Ahmad moved the Lahore High Court (LHC) making former prime minister Imran Khan, Shaikh Rashid, JI’ Chief Sirajul Haq, the Election Commission of Pakistan, federal government and the incumbent prime minister as respondents.
The petitioner submitted saying the top court declared the then Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif disqualified from the National Assembly during 2017 in response to a petition of Imran Khan, Shaikh Rashid and Sirajul Haq who urged the court to remove Nawaz Sharif from the party office.
The petitioner further said that in the year 2018, the Supreme Court ordered removal of Nawaz Sharif as president of the party.
The petitioner urged the court to remove Imran Khan, Shaikh Rashid and Sirajul Haq from the office of their party headship on the allegations that they all have not remained truthful and trustworthy. Afaq Ahmad further said the Supreme Court has disqualified Imran Khan from NA-95 Mianwali. Amid restoration of Mian Nawaz Sharif as party head the petitioner urged the court to proceed against Imran Khan, Sheikh Rashid and Sirajul Haq under Article 63 of the constitution.TLTP
Court extends Asad Qaisar’s interim bail till June 5
ISLAMABAD, (TLTP): An Additional District and Session Judge (AS&J) of Islamabad Tahir Abbas Sipra on Monday extended the interim bail of former speaker and PTI leader Asad Qaisar in a case incriminating him in Police Station Sangjani.
Appearing before the court on Monday, a senior criminal lawyer Sher Afzal Marwat contented that his client has properly joined the investigation saying the court has to examine grounds of the application for interim bail. He further argued that up to the satisfaction of the court the matter may be decided, adding there is also Islamabad High Court verdict to substantiate the claim of the applicant.
“What has been written in the application,” the court questioned. “Police standing at the gate of the court not allowing entry,” the counsel replied. “You know prevailing circumstances,” counsel Sher Afzal further said. “That is not written in the plea, I don’t know the circumstances,” the judge said. “We are submitting another plea,” counsel said.
Earlier, Asad Qaisar’s counsel filed another petition with fresh grounds for exemption from attending the hearing. Accepting the application of the accused persons’ counsel in the matter the court granted exemption to the former speaker and adjourned further hearing of the case till June 05.TLTP
PIA inks pact to generate $5.4m annually from Roosevelt Hotel
KARACHI, (TLTP): Pakistan International Airline (PIA) Monday signed a new agreement for its Roosevelt Hotel in the United States of America to generate revenue of approximately $5.4 million annually.
According to sources, the PIA has entered into a new agreement with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation for its Roosevelt Hotel in the USA.
