A dramatic protest unfolded at the Larkana Literary Fair’s opening ceremony yesterday, as six suspended members of the Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP) Larkana demonstrated against their membership suspension. The protesters, comprising poets, writers, storytellers, and painters, gathered in the Arts Council premises, wielding banners and shouting slogans.¹
The protest coincided with the arrival of Arts Council Larkana Chairman and Commissioner Larkana Ghulam Mustafa Phull, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Larkana Sharjeel Noor Chana. In response to the demonstration, Commissioner Larkana Division engaged with the protesters, promising to restore their suspended membership and establish a six-member committee.
Led by Khair Muhammad, President and leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party, the committee aims to address the grievances of the suspended members. This development highlights the ongoing tensions between the ACP and its members, sparking concerns about the council’s decision-making processes and transparency.
