Balochistan Governor Vows to Establish Information Commission

Independent Report.
Quetta, Nov. 13. Governor Balochistan, Jafar Khan Mandokhail, emphasized the importance of public participation in policy-making, stating that sustainable development and the right to information can only be achieved if citizens are fully informed and involved in the process.

Mandokhail met with a delegation from the Center for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI), led by Director General Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, at the Governor House in Quetta. He assured the delegation that the establishment of the Balochistan Information Commission is in its final stages.

The commission’s formation is mandated by the Balochistan Right to Information Act 2021, enacted in 2021, which required the commission’s establishment within 120 days. However, three years have passed, and the commission has yet to be established.

The delegation urged Balochistan to follow Punjab and Sindh’s implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, ensuring its enforcement in the province. Mandokhail assured the delegation that he would ensure the swift implementation of the RTI Act.

This development aims to promote transparency, accountability, and public access to information, aligning with the Pakistan Information Commission’s goals.¹
