Islamabad, Oct. 24, : A high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal reviewed the Prime Minister’s Committee on the conversion of agricultural land to housing societies. The meeting aimed to achieve consensus on effective land use and promote vertical development ¹.
Key attendees included top officials from all four provinces, who discussed regularization of land use and digitization of records. This would facilitate the efficient use of agricultural land for residential purposes.
Punjab’s Progress_: Digitization of land records is underway, with 11 cities’ master plans approved by the District Planning and Design Committee. Remaining projects are expected to be completed by November-end.
– _Sindh’s Input_: Representatives shared their province’s experiences and challenges in land use conversion. _Recommendations_: The committee proposed banning the conversion of prime agricultural land to housing societies, promoting public-private partnerships for urban renewal projects, and large-scale vertical development.
This meeting marks a significant step towards optimizing land use and promoting sustainable development in Pakistan.
