Islamabad, Oct. 16: Awami National Party (ANP) has submitted its constitutional amendment draft to the private parliamentary committee. The draft proposes renaming Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Pakhtunkhwa.
Engineer Ahsanullah Khan, ANP’s central spokesperson, expressed gratitude to all political parties for their support, stating that no objections have been raised so far. “Despite having limited representation in parliament, we are contributing to the democratic process,” he added.
ANP remains committed to its proposals and continues to engage with all parties. “We are hopeful that Pakhtunkhwa will soon get its original name,” Khan said.
Regarding judicial reforms, ANP supports the establishment of federal courts but opposes provincial constitutional courts. “This has been ANP’s longstanding demand,” Khan emphasized. “Our leader, Asfandyar Wali Khan, raised this issue on the floor of the house in the 1990s.”
The ANP leadership reaffirms its commitment to democratic principles and looks forward to constructive discussions on the proposed amendments.
