Minister Health concerned about rise in polio cases

QUETTA: The Balochistan province has reported 17th case of polio virus from Quetta district.
According to the sources of Health Department, the polio virus has been detected in a child belonging to Quetta. Although further details about the fresh polio case has not been received yet, but it was learnt that the symptoms of polio were shown in the affected child on August 22, this year.
It may be mentioned here that it is the third case of polio from Quetta district from where two cases of the crippling disease have already been reported from the metropolis.
Earlier, six cases of polio were reported from Killa Abdullah with two cases reported from Zhob and one each from Dera Bugti, Chaman, Jhal Magsi, Killa Saifullah, Kharan and Pishin.
It may also be mentioned here that the Quetta block has recorded 11 polio cases and 65 positive sewerage samples.
With this, Balochistan remains the most affected province, with 17 cases reported. Sindh has recorded 10 cases, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa four, and one case each from Islamabad and Punjab.
In view of the increase in polio cases, the Health Department has already decided to launch a special immunization campaign in the province from October 28, 2024.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Minister for Health, Bakht Muhammad Kakar has expressed deep concern over the increasing number of polio cases in the province. He said that the increasing number of polio cases is alarming bell.
He said that it is difficult to become polio free province with mere 37 coverage of routine immunization. He said that polio virus can not be eradicated without bringing improvement in coverage of the routine immunization.
