Islamabad,Oct. 11. Pakistan – Awaam Pakistan has formally opposed the proposed 26th Constitutional Amendment, citing significant concerns over legitimacy, judicial independence, and individual rights.
Awaam Pakistan questions the current government’s mandate, highlighting pending judicial adjudication on serious allegations. This raises concerns about Parliament’s authority to make substantial constitutional changes.
The proposed amendment undermines judicial autonomy by:
Allowing forced transfers of High Court Judges
Permitting acting Chief Justices
Enabling disciplinary actions against Judges for alleged inefficiency
Awaam Pakistan warns that the amendment compromises citizens’ fundamental rights, including protection against unlawful detention and state violations. The judiciary’s independence is crucial in safeguarding these rights.
