Another case of poliovirus reported from Balochistan increasing tally to sixteen

QUETTA: The polio cases continue to rise as another case of poliovirus has been reported from Balochistan province increasing the tally to sixteen during current year.
According to the Health department sources, the new polio case has been reported from Zhob district where the virus was detected in 3-year-old girl child.
While it is 16th polio case reported from Balochistan this year, it is 2nd case reported from Zhob district.
According to National Institute of Health, this year, Balochistan has reported the highest number of polio cases, with 16 confirmed incidents, whereas the total number of cases across Pakistan has reached 28.
Earlier, six cases of polio were reported from Killa Abdullah district with two each from Quetta and Zhob.
One polio case has been reported from Dera Bugti, Kharan, Chaman, Killa Saifullah, Pishin and Jhal Magsi.
Despite extensive vaccination campaigns and efforts to raise awareness by the government and international agencies working on health issues, the virus continues to affect children, particularly in regions with limited access to healthcare and vaccination services.
Health officials associated with the federal government as well as provincial governments are urging parents to ensure their children receive the polio vaccine, which is crucial in preventing the spread of this debilitating disease.
