FOOD AUTHORITY WARNS AGAINST UNREGULATED EDIBLE OIL

The Islamabad Food Authority, in collaboration with Nutrition International, organized an awareness session on the benefits of edible oil fortification, vitamin A and D deficiencies, and the negative health impacts of consuming unregulated and unrefined oil.
Deputy Director of the Islamabad Food Authority, Dr. Tahira Siddique, emphasized the authority’s efforts to ensure food safety and edible oil fortification. She highlighted that over half of Pakistan’s female and child population suffers from micronutrient deficiencies, including iron, vitamin A, and vitamin D.
According to estimates, approximately 9.9 million people in Pakistan suffer from osteoporosis, with 7 million being women. The session aimed to raise awareness about the importance of regulated edible oil to prevent such health issues.
The Islamabad Food Authority urges consumers to use regulated edible oil to prevent health risks. The authority is working to ensure the availability of safe and healthy food options for the public.
