Karachi : Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori has announced a grant of one million rupees for the Pakistan Institute of Labor Education and Research and the provision of free IT courses at Governor House for 200 children of workers. Addressing the closing ceremony of a conference on wages in Pakistan’s garment sector, Governor Tessori highlighted the challenges faced by the labor and working class, including inflation and unemployment. He emphasized the importance of providing essential training, safety equipment, and educational facilities for workers’ children. He described the conference as a crucial platform for discussing wage issues.
The conference was attended by government officials, representatives from textile and garment sector manufacturers’ associations, international buyers, civil society organizations, and domestic and international trade unions. Governor Tessori further stated that the conference aimed to protect workers’ rights in Pakistan and expressed his hope that everyone would contribute to this cause.
Governor Tessori mentioned that the doors of Governor House have been opened for the underprivileged. The “Bell of Hope” operates 24/7, addressing the issues of those in need. He noted that young people are being trained in advanced IT courses at Governor House, with trainees earning between $300 to $400 monthly. Additionally, ration bags are being distributed to the needy from Governor House.
In response to a question at the conference, Governor Tessori stated that if granted the necessary powers, he could solve the prevailing issues.
