QUETTA: The seven-day special anti-polio campaign is scheduled to begin in 16 districts of Balochistan province from Monday (today).
The Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for Polio Eradication sources informed that that anti-polio campaign would be run in Loralai, Killa Saifullah, Killa Abdullah, Chaman, Musakhail, Usta Muhammad, Duki, Lasbela, Barkhan, Kalat, Shirani, Naseerabad, Zhob, Sibi, Mastung and Sanjavi Tehsil of Ziarat.
According to EOC, 0.95148 million children would be vaccinated in the specific districts of the province.
More than 3,000 teams have been formed for the polio immunization campaign. In addition to them, there would also be 326 fix sites and 222 transit site teams.
All the necessary arrangements have been made for the immunization campaign. Needless to mention here is that the campaign was planned because of the presence of polio virus in the province.
In all six polio cases have so far been reported from Balochistan this year. Three of them were reported from Killa Abdullah district with one each reported from Quetta, Chaman and Dera Bugti.
The provincial government high ups have made pledge to make the anti-polio campaign successful.
In a review meeting about the arrangements of the immunization campaign, the Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan had termed the upcoming anti-polio campaign as a challenge for the district administration and health department emphasizing upon reaching out to each and every child for immunization during the campaign.
He warned that stern action would be taken against those who made an attempt to stop the anti-polio teams in any area.
He said that the anti-polio campaign is very important for stopping spread of the polio virus.
He assured that the foolproof security would be provided to the teams taking part in the campaign.
He stressed that we have to make access to each and every child in the campaign to vaccinate against polio virus.
He particularly directed to pay attention on the children at the transit points besides those left from being vaccinated during the campaign.
He also urged to convince the parents refusing the anti-polio vaccine to their children. He also sought the role of religious leaders, tribal elders and elites for making the anti-polio campaign successful.
