PESHAWAR- 24 sub-inspectors who had completed their deputation period with the Peshawar Traffic Police have been reassigned to the operations police of district Peshawar. This move, however, is clouded by serious allegations of corruption within the Traffic Police. Sources within the police department have revealed that these sub-inspectors were transferred from the Traffic Police because they refused to pay a commission, or bribe, to their Chief Traffic Officer and senior officials, DSPs Zahoor and Zakaullah. The transfer order was issued under the signature of Peshawar Police Chief Qasim Ali Khan, reportedly without his prior knowledge of the underlying reasons for the transfers. DSP Zahoor and DSP Zakaullah have been long-term fixtures in the Peshawar Traffic Police, with accusations that they have amassed millions in illegal assets over the past seven to ten years. Their tenure has been marked by widespread reports of corruption, significantly tarnishing the integrity of the Traffic Police. These allegations have repeatedly surfaced in the media, implicating both DSP Zahoor and DSP Zakaullah, along with the Chief Traffic Officer. Despite these reports, no action has been taken against the implicated officials. Sources suggest that the commission money was allegedly funneled to higher authorities, including the Inspector General of Police, thus stalling any potential investigations or disciplinary actions. The Chief Minister’s continued silence on the issue has further fueled public outrage. The persistent corruption within the Peshawar Traffic Police has severely damaged the reputation of the provincial government, raising concerns among citizens and social activists alike. Public and social circles are now demanding immediate and decisive action to address the corruption within the Traffic Police. They are calling for a thorough investigation into the allegations against DSP Zahoor, DSP Zakaullah, and the Chief Traffic Officer, and for the government to take stringent measures to eradicate corruption and restore public trust in law enforcement agencies. The gravity of the situation necessitates a prompt response from the authorities to ensure accountability and transparency within the police force. The public’s call for action underscores the urgent need for reform to combat corruption and uphold the rule of law in Peshawar.
