Occupancy and encroachments on drainage nullahs not acceptable at all, asserts Commissioner Quetta

QUETTA: The Commissioner Quetta Division, Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat has warned that occupation and encroachments on the drainage nullahs is not acceptable at all and as such action would remain continued against those involved in the encroachments.
The Commissioner directed to the concerned staff to ensure timely cleaning of the nullahs and clear the choke points there.
The Commissioner was chairing a meeting on advance preparations in view of the expected heavy rains in Quetta division here on Monday.
The Additional Commissioner Quetta, Soban Dashti, Deputy Commissioners , Assistant Commissioners of all the districts of division, Project Director of Quetta Development Package as well as representatives of the Communication and Works, Irrigation, Metropolitan Corporation, FC, Agriculture and other departments were in attendance.
The meeting was informed that heavy rains are expected in the monsoon season this year.
This has caused flash flood and urban flooding in different parts of the division, it was feared.
It was decided to complete the necessary preparations in advance by all the concerned departments.
In this regard, all the Deputy Commissioners were directed to prepare the contingency plan and put all the departments on alert taking timely measures in their respective districts.
The Commissioner directed to take steps for draining of the rain water particularly at Imdad Chowk, Zarghoon road, Eastern bypass, Gahi Khan chowk and university chowk.
It was recommended to enforce section 144 for stopping constructions and ending encroachments at the drainage nullahs in different localities of Quetta city.
