Seven-day anti-polio campaign due to begin in 14 districts of Balochistan today

QUETTA: The seven-day anti-polio campaign is due to begin in 14 districts of Balochistan from today (Monday). However, the immunization campaign has been differed for five days and would commence on June 8, 2024.
According to the Coordinator Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for Polio Eradication, Syed Zahid Shah, at least 7,636 teams have been formed for vaccinating above 1.884 million children below five years of age in all 20 districts of the province.
The districts included in the campaign starting from Monday (today) are included: Quetta, Pishin, Killa Abdullah, Chaman, Hub, Chaghai, Duki, Lasbela, Khuzdar, Zhob, Noshki, Killa Saifullah, Loralai and Mastung.
While remaining other districts in which immunization would start are included: Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Sib, Usta Muhammad, Dera Bugti and Sohbatpur.
The EOC Coordinator informed that in these six districts, the polio immunization campaign has been postponed for time being owing to the heatwave to be prevailed there.
He informed that all necessary arrangements have been finalized for the anti-polio campaign.
It may be mentioned here that three polio cases have been reported in three districts of the province i.e., Chaman, Killa Abdullah and Districts during the current year.
Similarly, the polio virus has been detected in the environmental samples of few districts of the province.
The special anti-polio campaign is being run in view of the presence of polio virus in the environmental samples of the province, the Coordinator EOC added.
