An extraordinary meeting of the governing body of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Medical Colleges was held with Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq in the chair.The meeting was attended by government minister Chaudhry Muhammad Rasheed, whereas minister for Public Health Nisar Ansar Abdali, chief secretary Dawood Muhammad Barich, special secretary health Rashid Hanif, principals of all the AJK based medical colleges and other relevant officials participated in the board meeting through video conferencing.Special secretary health Rashid Hanif gave a detailed briefing to the participants regarding the budget, faculty shortage and other issues faced by the Medical Colleges.The meeting also approved the budget for the financial year 2023-24 of Muzaffarabad, Rawalkot and Mirpur medical colleges. As per the details, a budget worth 243.249 million rupees was approved for Muzaffarabad Medical College, 243.616 million rupees for Mirpur Medical College and 230.469 million rupees for Poonch Medical College.Moreover, the meeting gave approval for fresh appointments of professors and assistant professors in medical colleges.Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Haq said that provision of quality education was the top priority of the government. “No compromise to be made on the quality of education”, he said, adding that the issue of faculty shortage would be addressed on priority basis. “The government will provide all the basic resources to the medical colleges to provide quality education to the medical students”, he said adding that children graduating from medical colleges were the future of the nation.
