Karachi: Nasir Ahmed Advocate, Chairman of the International Lawyers Forum (ILF), has expressed concern over NADRA becoming a symbol of fear not only for the general public but also for the transgender community. Speaking as the chief guest at the annual event organized by Voice of Transgender Rights in Karachi, Nasir Ahmed highlighted the challenges faced by the transgender community, emphasizing the need for policy modifications by NADRA to alleviate citizen hardships.
Ahmed noted that Pakistan’s high illiteracy rates contribute to common domestic disputes, which NADRA exploits, leading to corruption and the flourishing of an agent mafia. He urged NADRA to revise its policies in light of these issues. Additionally, he called for the implementation of separate counters for transgender and the allocation of job quotas in all federal and provincial government institutions, as well as private and public partnership organizations, including courts, hospitals, and educational institutions.
Sapna Khan, speaking at the event, emphasized the societal challenges faced by individuals identifying as transgender, highlighting the lack of support from families and government institutions. She called for increased recognition and separate facilities for the transgender community.
During the event, high-performance shields were distributed among transgender individuals, and ILF PRO Cecilia James distributed makeup boxes as a gesture of support and acknowledgment. The event aimed to shed light on the struggles faced by the transgender community and advocate for inclusive policies in various sectors of society.
