Anti-polio vaccination campaign kicked off in three high risk districts of Balochistan

QUETTA: The seven-day anti-polio campaign was kicked off in three polio high risk districts of Balochistan on Friday.
The Secretary Health, Abdullah Khan formally inaugurated the polio immunization campaign in Quetta, Pishin and Killa Abdullah districts here at the civil secretariat.
The Coordinator of Emergency Operation Center (EOC), Syed Zahid Shah, other senior officials of Health Department, representatives of World Health Organization, UNICEF were also present.
The Secretary Health administered anti-polio vaccine to the children below five years of age at the inauguration ceremony of the campaign.
Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary Health said that the anti-polio campaign has been started in Quetta, Pishin and Killa Abdullah from Friday. The campaign would be commenced in remaining districts of the province from November 27.
He informed that over 2.5 million children would be administered the anti-polio vaccine in the province.
For the purpose, over 11,000 teams have been constituted, the Secretary Health maintained.
The Secretary Health said that the polio virus was detected in the environmental samples of Quetta, Pishin, Hub, Dera Bugti and Chaman after around two and half years.
