Special anti-polio vaccination drive due to begin in three high risk districts today

QUETTA: The special anti-polio campaign is scheduled to begin in three polio high risk districts of Balochistan including Quetta, Pishin and Killa Abdullah from today (Friday).
However, the campaign would be started in remaining 33 districts of the province from November 27, 2023.
During the campaign, over 2.596 million children below five years of age would be administered anti-polio drops all over the province.
This was informed by the Coordinator of Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for Polio Eradication, Syed Zahid Shah on Thursday.
According to the EOC Coordinator, around 11,000 teams would take part in the anti-polio campaign being launched in the province.
He informed that all the polio teams would be provided necessary security during the immunization campaign.
He noted with contentment that no fresh polio case has been reported for last two years in the province.
However, polio virus has been found in the environmental samples, sewerage water in five districts of the province including Pishin, Quetta, Hub, Chaman and Dera Bugti.
Referring the importance of polio immunization campaign, Zahid Shah said that all available resources are being mobilized to ensure complete eradication of polio virus from the province and the upcoming campaign is also part of the government’s initiatives.
