Over Rs. 100 million fine recovered from pilferers: 15 more power pilferers arrested; 490

QUETTA: At least 15 more persons accused of pilferage of electricity were arrested while 490 more connections were disconnected as the extensive crackdown is continued by the Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) in Quetta and other parts of the province.
According to the spokesman of QESCO, the Company’s crackdown is continued against the defaulters of electricity bills and arrears besides those involved in the pilferage of electricity in the province.
He informed that 15 power pilferers were arrested from Pishin, Chaman and Khanozai areas during the campaign the other day. In all 11 applications were also registered in different police stations and levies thanas for taking legal action against them.
During the course, 17 transformers were also removed on the similar charges in different areas.
Moreover, connections of 490 defaulters were also disconnected all over the province, the spokesman maintained.
According to him, a total of 1293 applications have so far been registered against the power pilferers in all parts of the province and 380 FIRs have been registered against them.
At the outset, 166 people have been arrested on the charges of pilferage of electricity in the province against whom legal action is continued.
During the crackdown, all pilferers have been charged fine of around Rs. 140 million, out of it, Rs. 100 million have been recovered from them.
