The Caretaker Federal Minister for Communications Shahid Ashraf Tarar visited National Highways and Motorway Police (HQs), Islamabad. On this occasion, he was given a brief and comprehensive overview of NHMP working strategy and issues. He pledged to extend maximum support and cooperation to NHMP to overcome challenges and ensure maximum operational capacity. IG NHMP Sultan Ali Khowaja, Addl. IG, DIG (HQs) and other senior officers were also present at the said occasion. Shahid Ashraf Tarar has appreciated the efforts of National Highways and Motorway police. He said, it is my earnest desire that this force not only sustains its efficiency level but also needs the international standards of traffic management. He advised officers to work hard with dedication for the goodwill of the department. The Motorway Police has brought a significant reduction in traffic accidents through best strategy. He further said that anti-dozing device should be made mandatory for drivers of public service vehicles. Trailer (CE) category driving license will increase employment opportunities abroad. Steps should be taken immediately to increase the rate of traffic violation fines amount and it should implemented on private vehicles at first. There is a desire need to solve the shortage of manpower in the Motorway Police on war footing basis. He further added that drivers licensing authorities should be operationalized in big cities for the convenience of the public. It is our prime responsibility to save human lives from road accident though all available recourses. I will be happy to make efforts for increase in the salaries of Motorway Police, because at this time NHMP employees taking less salaries as compare to other law and enforcement agencies. Federal Communications Minister Shahid Ashraf Tarar handed over the symbolic key of the new patrol vehicles to IG Sultan Ali Khowaja. The Minister also laid a wreath on the martyr’s memorial wall to honour the sacrifices of police officers who rendered their lives in the line of duty
