QUETTA: The Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP)’s Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s Mir Dostain Khan Domki and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI)’s Abdul Shakoor Ghaibzai were elected as Senators in the bi-elections of Senate from Balochistan here on Thursday.
According to the Returning Officer and Provincial Election Commissioner, Muhammad Farid Afridi, Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo secured 23 votes while Mir Dostain Domki and Abdul Shakoor Ghaibzai got 17 and 16 votes respectively.
The Balochistan Awami Party (BAP)’s Mobin Khilji got five votes in the bi-election of Senate.
Earlier, the polling for three general seats of Senate was held in the Balochistan’s provincial assembly on Thursday.
The Provincial Election Commissioner, Muhammad Farid Afridi performed as the Returning Officer for the bi-election on Senate seats.
At the outset, process of polling was completed smoothly and peacefully with no interruption in the House.
In all 61 members of the assembly cast their votes in favour of the candidates contesting bi-elections of Senate from the province.
The MPA belonging to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), Ravi Pahuja was the first among the members who cast vote for the bi-elections. He was followed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Wali Muhammad Noorzai, Awami National Party’s Zamarak Khan Achakzai, Ms. Rubaba Buledi, Zafar Agha, Nawab Sanaullah Zehri and others.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti cast his vote for the bi-polls of Senate at 17th in the row. Similarly, the Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, Deputy Speaker Ms. Ghazala Golan, Nawab Aslam Raisani, Nawab Jangez Marri, Ms. Rahila Hameed Durrani and others also used their right of franchise for senate bi-elections.
While the BNP-Awami’s member assembly, Mir Asadullah Baloch didn’t cast his vote.
It may be mentioned here that in all seven candidates were in competition run for the bi-elections on three seats of the Senate from Balochistan.
They were included: Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo of PPP, Mir Dostain Domki of PML-N, Kohda Babar and Mobin Khilji of Balochistan Awami Party and Abdul Shakoor of JUI.
Two more candidates including Syed Mehmood Shah and Mir Hairbiyar Domki contested the election as independent candidates.
These seats had fallen vacant due to resignations of the senators Anwaarul Haq Kakar, Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri.
All the three successful candidates would serve as the Senators till March 2027.
