149 out of 678 schools in Quetta found non-functional:

QUETTA: In all 48 teachers were found absent during visit to some 140 schools by the monitoring team in Quetta district. Out of them, 25 have been absent for last one or two years. About the absentee teachers, a committee has been formed, which would take action against them.

The necessary orders would be issued for dismissal of the chronic absentee teachers after necessary scrutiny.

This information was shared during a review meeting of District Education Group chaired by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Muhammad Anwar Kakar here the other day.

The  meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Sariab, District Treasury Officer, District Education Officers (Male and Female) Quetta, representatives of the RTCM and UNICEF besides other concerned officials.

The detailed report about the functional and non-functional schools as well as absentee teachers and other staff of Education department was presented in the meeting.

It was informed that the RTCM visited some 140 middle and primary schools last month. Similarly, the report about 678 schools of Quetta was also presented in the meeting. These included 149 non-functional schools, it was informed further.

The names of these schools were submitted to the department for further action. It was decided to deduct salary of the teachers found absent during visit of the RTCM.
